the gift of olive tree

December 22, 2010

We already bought the ingredients we’re going to use for the preparation of our Christmas food.  I was in a different store when hubby and Caity went grocery shopping, so I didn’t know what else he bought aside from the ones I listed.

Today, I saw in the pantry that he also bought olives.  I honestly don’t like olives, but hubby likes it a lot.  I’m sure it will also be served in the table when his family comes to visit us on the 24th.

Wouldn’t it be interesting to give him one of those small olive trees for Christmas?  According to the online store selling olive trees, it can be grown in pots which is ideal for countries having four seasons so it’s easy to move them indoors during winter.

If you know someone who is fond of olives, an olive tree for a gift this season would definitely make that person happy. It’s quite a unique gift too!

getting ready for Christmas

December 19, 2010

I’ve been playing Christmas songs since yesterday to kick off the Christmas spirit at home.  My daughter loved it and has been playing the Jingle Bells song over and over.  With a week to go before the big day, I thought it was about time we take out our tree and decorate it.  When lil’ daughter saw the decors, her eyes lit up and she started bugging her dad to put up the tree.  She enjoyed decorating it while her little brother grabs those Christmas decors within his reach.  It was fun watching them.

When everything was in place, my daughter asked her dad where the presents are. Hahaha… That reminded me to start with our gift shopping too.

Some of you might have started shopping on Black Friday, but for our family, it’s gonna be last minute shopping again! What else is new? haha

bathroom repairs needed

December 17, 2010

I had a chat with my sister earlier and she was reminding me again to have our bathroom fixed.  She told me that the pipe is leaking.  It has to be checked so they will know where is the source of the water that’s making the floor wet.

I am glad that the repair cost will only be minimal.  I thought it will require some tiles to be taken out, and replaced, fixtures replaced, etc.  With the Christmas holidays coming, money will be tight and costly repairs are out of our budget.  Fortunately, we will only have to spend for labor and few lengths of PVC pipes. Whew!

But for those who are thinking of renovating their bathrooms, now is a great time to take advantage of the special discount that betterbathrooms.com is offering.  They’re currently having a stock clearance with discounts up to 55% off the retail price.

Everything you need to complete your bathroom is at hand at betterbathrooms.com.  They offer half prices on their tiles, bathroom furniture, taps, shower enclosures, baths, accessories and many more!  Think of it as their Christmas present to you!  You will be able to save a lot of money with their bargain.  And they have a little reminder for customers too, “buy now before the VAT increase!”  Now that should give you a big push to take immediate action.

spending your Christmas bonus wisely

December 9, 2010

During Christmas, most people have plenty of money because they get bonuses from their work.  But usually, for most people, as soon as it comes in, it flows out immediately - spending for parties, and gifts or shopping excessively for their wants.

There’s nothing wrong about enjoying our hard-earned money but it is also wise not to spend it lavishly.  If not properly managed, nothing will be left for more important things in life.

Investing in business, saving it for emergency or getting life insurance (be sure to compare term life insurance rates!) are just some of the wise moves one can do in putting the Christmas bonus to good use.

One can enjoy the holidays without spending too much.

watch out for the little boy!

December 7, 2010

The little boy is fond of crawling under tables and tight spaces.  Whenever I use my computer, he’d immediately crawl then stand under my table and grab the cables.  I had to put a box to block the opening so he can’t pass through.  But then he’ll start  going under his dad’s PC table.  The speaker is placed there, and he loves turning the volume of the speakers, most often to high.  His big sister who’s using their dad’s PC would complain coz of the loud volume. hehehe  I placed a small box there too but he can already climbed over it.  So whenever it’s my hubby’s turn to use his PC, he sometimes wonder why some features aren’t working.  Guess why?  The little boy has pulled the cables!

when stocks go down

December 2, 2010

I started investing in stocks last October.  I was actually planning for sometime already to join in but the paperworks got a little long to finish.  Anyway, the first few weeks, I was delighted with the results of the stocks I invested.  They went up, not much though but at least the figure is moving.  Recently though, it has been spiraling down.  :( According to my financial mentor, this is normal but assured us that in 4 to 6 weeks, it will be better.

I am holding on to his word.  I really don’t have idea about stocks at all, just relying on my mentor. Anyway, I really hope the stocks will go up again and when it gets better, maybe I’ll have extra money to buy gold too.  Gold is another good investment for the future.
